Title : A clinical profile of side effects of covid-19 pfizer-biontech mrna vaccine among children aged 12-18 years old in metro manila
Reluctance to COVID 19 vaccination that is secondary to limited knowledge on side effects, reporting of serious adverse reactions and emergency use of the vaccine is a major problem that could hinder achieving herd immunity against COVID 19 infection. Continuous monitoring and reporting of safety profile of side effects could be done to alleviate this growing concern.
Objectives. This study aims to determine the clinical profile of side effects of COVID 19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine among children ages 12-18 years old in Metro Manila
Study Design. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study.
Methods. The study population consisted of children ages 12-18 years of age who received single or two doses of COVID 19 Pfizer BioNTech vaccine in Metro Manila. Side effects and vaccination characteristics were compared between those who received a single versus two doses of the vaccine.
Statistical Analysis. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis.
Results. The study included 164 participants. 6 out of 10 participants reported at least one side effect post vaccination. Most of the symptoms reported are local reaction (pain over injection site) and common systemic side effects were headache, fatigue and fever. Females reports more side effects than males. Fifty eight percent of those with previous COVID 19 infection has reported side effects post vaccination. Timing of symptoms usually occurs on the 1st and 2nd day lasting up to 3 days post vaccination.
Conclusion. Most of the side effects documented are mild with short term duration of symptoms. Our study supports that COVID 19 Pfizer BioNtech vaccine is safe for use in children.

COVID 19 is a relatively new topic more so COVID vaccination and it is often times met with reluctance especially with growing concerns about safety. This research talks about the side effects of COVID 19 vaccine (Pfizer/BioNtech) among the pediatric population in the Philippines. I hope this research could contribute to the world-wide surveillance and monitoring being done on these novel vaccines in the hope to determine severe side effects of COVID vaccines and to assuage reluctance in the community.
