Title : Effects of yoga therapy on psychological factors in COVID-19 vaccine-associated optic neuritis: A case-control reports
Abstract:
With the presence of COVID-19 vaccines, the prevalence of new COVID-19 strains is decreasing dramatically. In the meantime, many vaccines were produced, Despite the beneficial effects of the COVID-19 vaccines, their side effects have also been revealed recently. One of the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine is optic neuritis (NO). Therefore, providing management solutions to reduce the side effects of vaccines can be an effective step. we investigated the effect of 8 weeks of yoga practice on one patient suffering from side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, and the other person was the control. 2 men, aged case 1: 58 years and case 2: 43 years, respectively, after two weeks of receiving the vaccine, encountered vision problems. Before and after performing the National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire: NEI VFQ-25; Depression Assessment: BDI-II was used. The data analysis was done by comparing the percentage of changes and the clinical data of the patients were compared with each other, and the results of NEI VFQ25 in case 1 (performing Yoga therapy) (from 535 to 2215) increased and BDI-II (from 61 to 35) decreased and recovered. However, no significant change was observed in control case 2. According to the results of the present research, it was shown that yoga therapy may have contributed to the synergistic effect with pharmacology in the treatment of NO disorder, in fact, yoga has an anti-inflammatory effect by changing the HPA axis and protecting the CNS system by remyelination. The concept of MedXercise allows concurrency use of exercise and medication to increase potential recovery, future studies can investigate the effects of different exercises.
